There is an amazing beach community on the southern coast of Oaxaca state where you can witness the hippie culture that had made it that famous in the 60’s and 70’s. Backpackers are plenty as they could stay in the rustic cabins and camping spaces lining the beach.

The resort town of Ixtapa and the fishing town of Zihuatanejo is located north of Acapulco. If you prefer wild and rugged surfing beaches, up further north is the Michoacan coast which was named after Jose Mria Morelos, the hero of the Mexican War of Independence.
