Yucatan is a place with lots of beachfront property. One of the best beaches and most exotic beach is Isla Holbox where you can beat the tourist crowds. Word by word, Holbox means ‘black hole’ and in this Mexican state of Quintana Roo, this black hole is about 12 km by 1.5 km by area. A shallow lagoon separates it from the mainland. There are many birdlife such as pelicans and flamingos which made their home here. Isla Holbox is also part of Yum Balam Biosphere Reserve. You still can see that it is undergoing development from fishing as their main industry to being a tourist industry. Isla Holbox is promoting their whale shark viewing industry to tourist. To get there, you can take a ferry from Chiquila. Getting around is by moped or golf cart. They do have a small airline called Aerosaab, and from Cancun or Playa del Carmen to Holbox.

What is amazing in Holbox as a special activity you can experience is kitboarding. Kiteboarding needs a safe beach where you can learn as a beginner. Holbox provides exactly these ideal conditions as it has shallow waters, a wide long beach without big obstacles. The weather conditions is also important for kiteboarding. For example, in Holbox there are many days of wind in the winter season. Right now, there are two school where you can engage their professional instructors to start a beginner course. Alternatively, this place has great north winds of 25 knots at least where advanced riders will enjoy their kiteboarding in style.

On the northwestern part of Cancun, is a  place where you may discover the fauna and flora of the Yucatan peninsula. If you are a bird lover, you are recommended to take a boat to the Little Bird Island and make great photography sessions with aquatic birds such as Egrets, Cormorants, Terns, Pink Flamingos, Pelicans, Nest and Herons. The other must see is the Whale Sharks which are in season from May until September. You can go to Isla Contoy and try eating some plankton. If you can snorkel, a fun activity could be swimming with the Whale Shark. They are the biggest fish in the world.
