Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca

This is a small port in the Oaxaca Mexican state. Originally, it was better known in the Nahuatl language as Zicatela which means ‘place of large thorns’. Once it was the captive place of a legend about a woman. It is now a tourist attraction on the Oaxacan coast where you can find more downscale and eclectic surfers, Mexicans visiting the place in families, and backpackers. The most fascinating is the Zicatela Beach where lots of major surfing competitions are hosted. Nature lovers also love to come here for activities like birdwatching and fishing. Historically, Puerto Escondido was a fishing village. It was also a port for shipping coffee beans. Though the southern Mexico Pacific coast remains a traditional Mexico fishing village, much of the coffee farms in the foothills are still protected.

If you enjoy swimming and surfing, the best beach in the world is Playa Zicatela. In August and September, this place is the championship location. One advice is to not swim or surf alone, as the underwater currents are rather powerful.
