Tijuana is the largest city on the Baja California Peninsula and lies close to the border of San Diego. The city is an important financial and industrial center in Mexico with a strong influence on economics, education, culture, art and politics.

Although poverty is widely spread throughout the city, there has developed a society of very rich people who live in luxurious neighborhoods.

The city of Tijuana has a moderate weather all the year with avarage temperatures between 20°C (68ºF) and 30°C (86ºF) and a short rainy period.

The Tijuana Cultural Center

The Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) was opened on the 20th of October, 1982; one of the main objectives being to advertise cultural tourism from the U.S.. The building was constructed by the architects Pedro Ramirez Vázquez and Manuel Rosen Morrison. The CECUT include lecture rooms, video rooms, a library, an exhibition hall, the Museum of California, a futuristic IMAX theater and a restaurant. Since 1992, CECUT hosted the Orchestra of Baja California (OBC) and the Hispanic-American Center for Guitar (CHG). Since 2001, CECUT receives about a million visitors per year, making the Baja California to be the most important cultural center.

La Casa de la Cultura in Tijuana

Another important cultural center in Tijuana is the La Casa de la Cultura, which houses a school, a theater and a public library. Here people can attend dance, painting, music, plastic arts, photography and language classes.

The city also hosts the Municipal Institute of Arts and Culture, the Tijuana Wax Museum and the El Trompo Museum.

The parks of the city of Tijuana

Tijuana can also be proud of its parks. Parque Morelos has a small zoo, Parque de la Amistad has a small pond, Parque Teniente Guerrero is located in downtown and include a public library and several entertainment facilities.

Art and music in Tijuana

Tijuana also has an internationally recognized very active and independent artistic community.

Last but not least, the music surprises tourists in a pleasant way. The Nortec music originated in Tijuana. Beside of this, Tijuana also has a large base of other musical genres such as Mexican hip-hop, hardcore, punk, black metal and house music.

Clubs, hotels and restaurants in Tijuana

The city of Tijuana has many clubs and a famous golf course. You can find here a large club, the Rotary Club. Grand Hotel Tijuana and many luxurious restaurants have been developed along the Agua Caliente Boulevard (often called by locals “El Bulevar”) and also in the Zona Rio.
