Driving in Mexico City is not recommended. Traffic can be dense and annoying. Visitors should not drive at night, there were many reports of embezzlement, robbery and attacks of lonely drivers. Renting a car in Mexico is expensive. Drivers must be at least 23 years old (21 in special cases).  In the city there is a large network of bike lanes. Bicycles can be rented from Avenida Heroico Colegio Militar.

Visiting this this giant city can be a daunting prospect even with a comprehensive and affordable public transport. However, the subway is supporting all of those tourists who want to visit the metropolis. You should also know that it is good to avoid peak times because then the subway is very crowded.

The buses and minibuses in Mexico City

The transportation in Mexico City obviously include the bus lines as well. The buses display the destination place on their windshield and are slow, but clean. On the streets of Mexico City are circulating fast buses, which are called peseros. They move freely without stopping places or departure schedules. If you choose this kind of trasportation, you just have to simply climb aboard, pay for the ticket and shout “Bajan” when you want to get off.

You should take in account that all crowded public transport systems in Mexico City are places where minor infractions occur. There are some things that you can do if you don’t want to loose your objects. It is recommended to carry valuable things discreetly and to avoid traffic after dark.

An other transportation option in Mexico City is the taxi. Taxis offer various different services. The most frequents are the vehicles without fixed routes. Take care and avoid all unlicensed taxis. In the recent years, the crime related to this means of transport has increased. The unlicensed taxis were involved in violent attacks, robberies and rapes, so if the price is too good to be true, it is better if don’t get in that car.

Although are more expensive, the taxis of the Radio company are much safer and reliable and can be ordered by telephone from hotels and restaurants. It is always good to choose a safer way of trasportation even if you have to pay more or avoid the peak hours.
